Topic 5: How healthy are barbequed foods

Barbeque, or also known as BBQ, has become a tradition in our lifestyle here in Singapore. All of us here has at least been to a BBQ party once. Surely one has eaten barbequed food before.

We all know that barbequeing is fun, and the barbequed food is delicious, but has anyone thought of the threats we have posed to our body? Besides the handling of food (hygiene), overcooked or burnt food can cause a number of chemicals such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are formed to be formed, and it can be harmful when eaten. It is also harmful when the flames touches the food.

Despite the harmful effects of eating barbequed foods, I feel that it is still ok to have some fun BBQing once in a while with our friends. It is a fun thing to do together and it does not necessary harm the environment except for a minor air pollution from the burning of the charcoal.
